How AI helped a struggling garage door company get found online
The garage door repair company in St. George had good technicians and loyal customers. What it did not have was a way to be found. When someone’s door broke and they searched on their phone, the company was not where they looked.
I worked with them to change that, and AI tools did a lot of the heavy lifting. Here is what we did, so you can decide what fits your own business.
The goal: help the technicians, not replace them
A local service business runs on people. Nobody wanted a robot answering for the company. The idea was to let software take the routine work (answering common questions, booking, giving a first rough estimate) so the technicians could spend their time fixing doors. We added a chatbot to the website to give people an answer straight away and leave the staff free for the harder questions.
A website the owner could keep up to date
We built the site on WordPress. It is flexible, it does not need a developer for every small change, and plugins made it simple to add the chatbot and the visitor statistics. It can also grow with the business.
Finding the words customers actually use
Before writing anything, I used AI research tools to find what people in the area typed when they needed a garage door fixed. That meant the obvious searches, and also the longer, more specific ones, such as “emergency garage door repair” or “energy-efficient garage doors”. Those longer searches come from people who know what they need and are ready to call.
Those words went into the service pages, the blog posts and the ads. If you want to do the same for your business, start with these five local search basics.
Writing more, and more useful, content
AI tools helped us keep a steady flow of helpful posts and service pages. They suggested topics people were searching for, drafted outlines and proposed headings. The site filled up with answers to the questions customers ask about repairs and upkeep.
Over time that makes the company the obvious local expert, and it gives search engines a reason to send people its way.
Keeping search work going
We used AI-powered search tools to track where the site ranked, spot technical problems, see what competitors were doing, find sites worth getting links from, and handle chores such as page descriptions and image sizes. Search engines change their rules often, so this is not a one-off job. Doing a little every month is what keeps a site visible. There is more on the link side in how AI is changing link building.
Offering more than repairs
The company also partnered with manufacturers and home improvement services, so it could point customers to good products and related services alongside its repairs. AI research helped pick partners that fit the company’s customers, and that added another source of income.
Listening to the neighborhood
We used AI to keep an eye on local social media and forums, so the company could join conversations, answer questions and learn what people in town cared about. It also helped weigh which local events and sponsorships were worth the money.
What changed
The company climbed in local search results and got more service requests. Customers got quicker answers and more accurate quotes, and its reputation as the company to call in St. George grew. Competitors who kept doing things the old way found it hard to keep up.
The stronger, more organized business also started to draw interest from potential buyers: a company with steady leads and clear processes is worth more than one that depends on the phone ringing by chance.
What you can borrow for your own business
You do not need to do all of this at once. The order that worked here:
- Find out what your customers search for, in their own words.
- Write clear pages and posts that answer those searches.
- Let software handle the routine questions and booking, and keep people for the real work.
- Check your search position every month and keep adding to the site.
AI keeps getting more capable, and I wrote about where it is heading in the role of AI in SEO. The businesses that start using it now, carefully, will be easier to find than the ones that wait.
